”E PLURIBUS UNUM ” Artist Talk with Muriel Stockdale

The Sherman Library is presenting a talk about their current art show ”E PLURIBUS UNUM” – Flags by Muriel Stockdale on Friday May 2, 6:30 – 7:30pm. Stockdale will talk about how she creates her culturally celebrative art series of USA flags. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library now through May 7, 2025 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org.
Please join artist Muriel Stockdale for a talk about creating her flag series which is entitled E PLURIBUS UNUM (our US motto which means Out of Many One). Each piece is created out of multiple materials and techniques to honor a specific culture from somewhere in the world. Gifts that people of the world have brought to all of us here in the USA are highlighted in different materials and specific motifs.
Stockdale will talk about the creativity behind these flags, her design process, the materials she selects and how she creates her diverse flags as well as her methodology for creating these masterpieces.
Muriel Stockdale was born and raised in England. She moved to Long Island, NY in 1967. She began early in entertainment as a stage manager for theater. In the 1970’s she received a federal grant to form a theater company in rural Vermont. Over the last 40 years, while maintaining a successful career in costume design, she has directed or designed several shows in NYC and in New England, performed onstage, crewed backstage, managed costume shops, designed and painted scenery, and taught aspiring designers. Currently, her novel GABRIEL BORN is being produced as a podcast.
