“Devil in the Details” – Drawings by Christina Maschke at The Sherman Library

The Sherman Library is starting off the new year with a new art show: “Devil in the Details” – drawings by Christina Maschke.  Using colored pencils or pastels, Christina creates incredible detailed wildlife drawings, pet portraits and landscapes.  Her illustrations are done with precision, accuracy, details and many hidden layers bringing an animal to life such that one can almost feel the fur.    The artist reception will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 6 - 8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from January 10 through February 19, 2025 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org. 

“Drawing is seeing. While I observe the big picture, my true passion lies in the challenge of discovering and capturing the intricate details.” Says Maschke.  Her artistic style of precision and accuracy compels her to be patient and methodical, taking the time to perfect every line and nuance. Her illustrations can be found as originals or giclee prints and also on mugs, trivets and cards.

Born in Bronxville, New York, Maschke discovered her passion for art at a young age, with animals quickly becoming her favorite subject. She honed her artistic talent at Southampton College and years of self-guided refinement fueled by determination and practice. Her dedication has led to notable recognition, with 130 images published in The Litchfield County Times. Additionally, she earned first-place awards in 2021 and 2023 at The Great Hollow Juried Art Show in New Fairfield, Connecticut and an honorable mention for her pet portrait of "Mojo" in Artist's Magazine September 2024.

Based in New Milford, Maschke is an active member of the Sherman Art Association in Sherman, Connecticut and participates in many art shows in Connecticut and New York.  When not in her studio, she enjoys the outdoors, connecting with nature through gardening, beach outings, and hiking adventures with her husband and their dog.
