Join the Sherman Library for Candlewood Lake, an illustrated talk on March 29th at 2:00pm with John Cilio, author, historian and lecturer.


This program delves into the fascinating history behind the creation and opening of Candlewood Lake. The ambitious plan to create this stunning lake involved flooding 5,600 acres of land in the Rocky River basin. Back in the mid-1920's, the CT Power and Light Company undertook this project to establish another crucial hydro-electric power source for the state.


The project was a groundbreaking success. Today, the Candlewood Lake serves as a monumental source of power, nearly a century old, that continues to provide us with endless enjoyment and benefits. Let’s celebrate this incredible feat of engineering and marvel at the legacy of Candlewood Lake.
