HOUSING COMMISSION SURVEY

The Housing Commission has completed our review of the responses to the 2016 Housing Commission Survey including the 200 interesting written comments. The 594 completed surveys provided compelling insights into residents thinking about housing in Sherman. The majority of respondents did support affordable senior housing. However, the majority did not support the reducing lot size zoning regulations or creation of housing types other than single family dwellings. This inconsistency presents the Commission with a significant challenge moving forward with respect to both developing affordable and or senior housing proposals that would attract all age groups and be supported by Sherman residents.

The results of our review and analysis of the completed surveys has been presented to the Board of Selectmen, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Commission On Aging. We plan to hold additional informational meetings with the public in the next couple months. Attached to this memo is a copy of the total responses to the survey for your review.

The survey will be used as a basis for future planning and recommendations by the Commission. We will make every effort to keep the residents of Sherman up to date and aware of the many issues with respect to affordable housing in our community.
