Vital Statistics
Sherman's records are complete from 1802. Since Sherman was a part of the
town of New Fairfield until its incorporation in 1802, vital records before
that date are located in the Town of New Fairfield (New Fairfield lost most
of its records by fire in 1867).
All marriage and death records (and birth records over 100 years) are open to
the public. Since our vitals index includes current records, we will assist
you with requested records. All copies must be certified and the cost is
$5.00. Social Security Numbers are removed as per statute on certified copies
except to certain applicants. Birth records under 100 years old are available
to the person who is the subject of the certificate if not a minor, parents,
grandparents, spouse or children, and certain other legal individuals.
Marriage Licenses
Marriage licenses are issued during regular office hours. Licenses must be
issued by either the Town of residence for the Bride or Groom, or the Town
where the marriage is to take place. There is no waiting period and no blood
tests. The cost is $30.00
Passports
Passport applications are available at the Post Office.
Beach Passes
Beach passes are not available at the Town Clerk's Office. They are only
available at the Park and Recreation Office located at the Sherman School.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee Ballots are issued by the Town Clerk's Office during regular office
hours. They are available to registered voters only. They are available
approximately 30 days before a regular election. Application forms are
available in the Town Clerk's Office. There are various types of ballots
available for certain situations. Call for details.
